Spring in Okinawa's Waters
From March to May, Okinawa shakes off the winter northerlies and sea conditions stabilize beautifully. March can still have cool spells, but by April temperatures climb to around 25°C (77°F), and you can enjoy snorkeling without a wetsuit on warmer days. May offers precious clear skies before the rainy season sets in, with exceptional water visibility. While Golden Week (late April to early May) draws crowds, the rest of spring is pleasantly uncrowded — an ideal shoulder season for marine activities.

Whale Watching (through March)
Season runs January through March. Humpback whales can be spotted in the Kerama waters. Mid-March is your last chance.
Blue Cave Snorkeling & Diving
Spring offers high visibility and fewer crowds — a hidden gem season. Water temperatures become comfortable from late April.
Coral Spawning (late May - June)
A mystical phenomenon where corals simultaneously release eggs and sperm on full moon nights. Observable via night dives from late May.
Kerama Islands Boat Diving
Famous for "Kerama Blue" — stunning water clarity. Spring brings higher chances of encountering sea turtles.
SUP (Stand-Up Paddleboarding)
Calm morning SUP sessions are ideal. From April onward, many days are warm enough to go in just a swimsuit.

- Golden Week (late April - early May) fills up fast — book 1-2 months ahead for popular shops
- In March, choose plans that include wetsuit rental for extra warmth
- Mid-May onward may see the start of rainy season — keep backup dates available
- UV rays intensify rapidly in spring — bring reef-safe sunscreen and a rash guard
