Autumn in Okinawa's Waters
September through November is Okinawa's hidden gem season. The summer peak crowds thin out dramatically, yet the ocean remains wonderfully warm — 28°C (82°F) in September, and still a comfortable 24°C (75°F) even in November. September carries some residual typhoon risk, but from mid-October onward, that risk drops substantially. Prices return to off-peak levels, popular dive sites become pleasantly uncrowded, and you can enjoy a more intimate, relaxed marine experience. This is the season seasoned travelers and repeat visitors love most.

Autumn Typhoon Notes
Typhoon season continues through September and into early October. Risk drops significantly from late October, but never reaches zero.
- For September trips, build flexibility into your schedule to account for typhoon risk
- From October onward, typhoon concerns are minimal — but travel insurance is still recommended
- Water visibility may temporarily decrease after a typhoon (typically recovers in 2-3 days)
- Autumn rain fronts can bring overcast days, but underwater beauty remains unchanged
Autumn Booking & Preparation Tips
- Off-peak pricing makes autumn the best value-for-money season
- October-November bookings are easy to secure, and tours are often small groups
- A wetsuit is essential in November — choose plans that include rental
- An underwater torch enhances the experience (many shops offer rentals)
